Dealing with Violence and Aggression

Aggression in today's society is part of everyday life. We all know how it feels to be aggressive and to feel another person's aggression. Keeping the causes and context of violence in mind can help prevent these situations.

Who should attend?
This course is for anyone who has ever feared or experienced aggression in the workplace. It is aimed at managers, workers and volunteers who would like to feel less vulnerable in their dealings with others.

You will learn how to define situations before they escalate by understanding the causes and context of aggression. You will learn how to feel more powerful and to use this power to help you in difficult situations.

This session will cover:

  • Simple and straightforward guidelines for decision making in potentially difficult situations
  • Understanding the causes and context of aggression - why some people will become aggressive whilst others remain calm in the same circumstances
  • The skills we need in order to deal with aggression effectively - defining different kinds of aggression and developing different approaches in response
  • Understanding the different responsibilities involved and identifying to whom they belong - including policy making which can protect you and your workforce

About the Trainers

Margaret Alderdice has worked for Victim Support since 1987, and has a wide experience of the Voluntary Sector and working with volunteers. Margaret is also a freelance trainer covering a wide variety of areas. Margaret is a qualified trainer and has a degree in Criminal Justice Studies.

Veronica Johnson has worked for Victim Support since 1993 and previously worked in a local community project and a project for young women. Veronica's training experience began with creating and presenting Life Skills courses for young people. Veronica has a qualification in Adult Education and a degree in Social Sciences.
