health" Staff supervision is a highly effective tool of staff management, which can empower both supervisees and supervisors. When practised skillfully, supervision helps staff become more focused and clear about what they are doing and why, boosts motivation and job satisfaction and is the cornerstone of continuing professional development. Yet good quality supervisory practices are very patchy and little understood within the voluntary sector. This one-day workshop which draws on the work and research of Daniel Goleman who coined the term emotional intelligence demonstrates why supervision is so important and explores the key skills needed for it to be effective. Who Should Attend? The Tutor Julian Penton is an independent trainer, consultant and fieldworker aiming to enable greater effectiveness in individuals and organisations within the voluntary and community sector. He worked for fifteen years within local authorities in community development before beginning to freelance in 1997.
