We’ve all heard of
Equal Opportunities but!!
- How do we get there?
- How do we make it happen?
- How do we make sure that our
organisation is not just saying the words but actually committed to
creating a positive change?
As more and more
workplaces recognise the importance of including people from all
backgrounds in service delivery and commit themselves to making services
open and equally accessible to all, a number of issues arise:
- How can I make sure that our working
practices do not exclude people?
- How can I make sure that our services
can be reached by everyone?
- What about recruiting paid and unpaid
workers from diverse backgrounds?
- Some groups of people just don’t
seem to want our services, what can I do about that?
- I can’t seem to make my management
committee recognise the importance of this issue. They think I’m
just being trendy whenever I raise it.
- I’d like to do more but I’m not
really clear about some things. For example, what is the difference
between positive action and positive discrimination?
Participants will have a
chance to explore these and other issues through discussion, group
exercises and information giving.
Managing Diversity is
all about:
- understanding the legislation which
exists around equality of opportunity
- understanding when legislation just
isn’t enough
- examining best practice in service
planning, management and delivery
- aiming for equality of outcome, not
just equality of access
Managing Diversity
means recognising the positives and the challenges that difference
brings.
Who should attend?
This is an introductory session which would be useful for:
- Anyone involved in managing, planning
