Health & Safety At Work

General
Perhaps the foremost reason for health and safety training is the fact that the law requires it. In addition it is also a fundamental aspect of any successful health and safety management system. There are other good reasons for training the workforce in health and safety, but these essentially flow from the above two reasons.

Although technical training is important, health and safety training often seeks only to raise awareness. Awareness training is extremely beneficial. The people that work within our organisations are all rational beings who make decisions based on the perception of risk and the benefits to be gained by not complying with health and safety rules. Awareness training therefore helps give management, staff and volunteers a realistic perception of the risks involved allowing them to make informed judgements.

Health and safety awareness training helps promote a positive health and safety culture. If a positive culture exists within the organisation then the way things are done will be the safe way.

This one day introductory course is designed to promote greater awareness of health and safety to staff volunteers and management committee members and to relate this to the responsibilities of employers and employees under health and safety legislation.

The course will cover:

  • Overview of the health and safety function
  • Health and Safety Legislation
  • Types and causes of accidents
  • Who is responsible for health and safety?
  • Accident prevention and risk assessment
  • Developing a " safety" culture
