Introduction
This course is designed to enable people to feel more
comfortable and knowledgeable when dealing with disabled people.
Disability as an issue in the voluntary sector has moved on
enormously in recent years and the implications for voluntary
organisations are profound. This course is very wide ranging and
includes an explanation of how to avoid the use of inappropriate
language or behaviour as well as examining the implications of
the Disability Discrimination Act.

About the
course tutor
David Barker is the Project Manager for Ability 2000, a local
enabling network. The project aims to encourage and support
employers to recruit and develop disabled people in their
organisations.
David's background
is in the field of training. His previous positions include being
the National Inner Cities Development Manager for the Industrial
Society based in London and a Regional Development Manager for
Business in the Community, where he specialised in developing
customised pre-recruitment training models for targeted
recruitment.
