| Advocacy is a very popular topic at
the moment, as new Advocacy groups are being established
all over the country. Advocacy, in all of its forms, will
have a major role in the empowerment of the individual
and impact upon the delivery and planning of Community
Care services. Who should attend?
Anyone
with an interest in understanding what Advocacy is all
about, whether from the Voluntary, Statutory or
Independent Sectors. The course is aimed at people with
little knowledge or experience of advocacy.
The
session will cover:
- What
is Advocacy? Covering the essentials elements of
advocacy and exploring the philosophy that drives
it.
- Identifying
the main types of Advocacy and the differences
between them
- Understanding
the need for Advocates. What are the reasons that
cause people to need to use Advocates rather than
advocating for themselves.
- What
is the role of an Advocate? What you can expect
Advocates to do and not do; looking at the
boundaries of their role.
- How
Advocacy is relevant to people and helps them to
be more independent and empowered
- Increasing
your awareness of what is actually happening
locally
What
you will gain from the course?
You will
have a current knowledge and understanding of Advocacy,
which has been identified as a very important issue in
recent legislation. You will also be aware of how
advocacy works in practice, how it has developed and what
is available locally.

the trainer
Alex
Zeilinski has been involved in the Voluntary Sector for
over 12 years and is currently joint chair of
"Advocacy into Action". He has wide experience
of training particularly issues involving Advocacy, and
offers training and research services on a consultancy
basis.
