An exciting project has begun in the Tees Valley which will help the voluntary and community sector in preparation for the 21st century. Although still in its early days, the most interesting aspects of this project developed by the Voluntary Sector Training Unit (VSTU) are:
It was in a workshop for the VSTU's pioneering Investors in People scheme (the first time the Voluntary Sector delivered IiP to the Voluntary Sector) that they identified the problem of tackling the lack of management development training and leadership skills to lead voluntary organisations forward. The VSTU's remit was to look for a flexible and self-controlled development programme which could be applied both in a workshop environment and an open learning basis. The programme needed to be extremely practical and 'hands-on', yet provide adequate levels of theory. There was also a need to be able to chart work towards a qualification or to simply embark upon a professional development process. The MCI's DPMS continuing professional development programme met all the criteria. To date, following the Tees Valley launch the programme has got underway with 32 participants from a diverse range of businesses across the Tees Valley area. Initial feedback showed the participants developing increased awareness of their own learning preferences and how this could be used to work more efficiently. Participants could see a new way to approach staff and volunteers career development in their organisations. If you would like more information please contact: Nigel Ellenor, VSTU, Tel. 01642 873377 |
