| LANGBAURGH WOMEN'S AID It is estimated that 25% of violent crime reported to the police is inflicted on women in the home. Violence against woman takes on many forms, not only physical abuse, but also emotional and physical abuse, but also emotional and sexual abuse. women from all backgrounds are subjected to violence. Because the abuse of women in the home has been accepted for so long by society, it may be difficult for women to talk about it. Women may often feel alone in their situation and feel trapped. Langbaurgh Women's Aid (L.W.A) is a voluntary organisation which is run by women for women and children.
| SERVICES L.W.A. offer confidential emotional and practical support to any women experiencing abuse within the home. We can help by listening and talking through the experiences women have had. We can give information on financial, legal and housing matters - and help to explore the options available to women who are living in violent environments. We will support women with their decisions whatever they may be.
| THE REFUGE We provide safe and secure Refuge accommodation for women and their children who are fleeing from violence in the home. Here women can receive support and share experiences not only with the workers but also with the other women in the Refuge. We operate a 24hr service which means women can come to the Refuge at any time of the day or night.
| WOMEN'S AID L.W.A. is affiliated to the women's Aid Federation of England which is a nationwide organisation which has a network of Refuges throughout the country. One important aim of W.A.F.E. is to offer advice, support and practical help to any women who seeks it, whether or not she is a resident of a Refuge.
