RSA IBT2
Integrated Business Technology Level 2

General Details

This course is aimed at those who have already gained a basic competence in databases, word processing and spreadsheets. A level equivalent to the RSA "Computer Literacy and Information Technology stage 1"(CLAIT) is ideal, but is not a requirement of this course and applications will be considered from anyone with a basic IT grounding.

Participants will extend their skills in, and knowledge of, information technology in work-related and/or personal contexts.

Successful completion of the whole course will lead to the award of the RSA IBT stage 2 certificate. Participants who do not complete the whole course, but who complete one or more of the elements will be awarded a 'profile' certificate detailing the elements achieved.

The software used will usually be Microsoft Works (version 4) running on IBM compatible machines. It would however also be possible to use Microsoft Office if students prefer.

Duration

The course will extend over 36 sessions - see below.

Course Elements

The course comprises five main elements as follows:

  1. Set and use the facilities of a database structure.
  2. Create and use a spreadsheet to aid problem solving.
  3. Use word processing facilities to produce a multi-page document.
  4. Produce a pie chart and a bar chart of numerical data.
  5. Combine information from the database, spreadsheet and a graph into the word processed document.

Assessment

Assessment will be by means of five assignments, set by RSA, covering the above elements and can be taken at what ever point the student is ready, up to the maximum number of sessions.
