Intermediate Course

This course follows on from the Microsoft Access 97 Beginners Course. As this is not a course for beginners, it is assumed that you have a basic working knowledge of Access and can perform certain elementary tasks. It is designed to guide you through the most important features of the program, using language that is easy to understand and examples that are easy to follow.

What you already need to know about Access, 

You Should Know How To:

  • Start and exit Access

  • Open and close a database

  • Hide and show the Office Assistant; reset the Office Assistant tips

  • Use the Main Switchboard and Database window to open forms, tables, reports, and queries, as appropriate

  • Use the menus, toolbar buttons and some shortcut key combinations

  • Navigate the database, moving between windows, records and fields

  • Use simple Sort options to order records in a form or a table

  • Change and add records in either a form or a table; delete records

  • Use Filter By Selection to select a sub-set of records

  • Understand the structure of a simple database

  • Work with tables; changing the design, printing the datasheet and using print preview

  • Print a report

  • Understand simple select queries

In this Intermediate Course you will learn to create a database in two ways. First, you will use the Database Wizard to create a membership database. Then you will build a customer database from scratch, creating database objects - tables, forms, reports, etc. - as you require them.
